The three elements will reinforce the development of professional mental health providers as data shows significant increase in number of providers in Buffalo County, however, 1 in 6 people have access to a provider. The 2nd element is supporting the growth of peer support workforce, the collaborative is defining peer support and engaging those with experience in this work to learn ideas for expansion. The final element is created a wellness ambassador program, which is a best practice of Give an Hour. Mental Health Providers in Schools Both Sioux City and South Sioux City schools have dedicated mental health providers embedded within their campuses. These professionals work directly with students, offering counseling, crisis intervention, and support tailored to individual needs. Expanding Access to Rural Schools Heartland Counseling is actively expanding its services to rural schools in the region. This initiative ensures students in underserved areas receive the mental health support they need, bridging gaps in access and reducing travel barriers for families. Integrated Support Systems Providers collaborate with school staff to create a supportive environment, addressing emotional and behavioral challenges that impact learning. They also connect families to additional community resources for ongoing care.
